Death Note Marathon...

I Love Manga, The passion started with Samurai X, which was shown on the then Sanyu TV station. Kenshi's moves made me appreciate manga more and this has grown with the passing years.

Back to now. The weekend being an idle one for me since no plans to leave the house where made, meant that this was chance to catch up with my favorite manga and death note was an ideal choice.

Death Note is a Japanese manga series. The series is about Light Yagami, an extremely intelligent young man who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground. The Death Note's instructions claim that if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the notebook's authenticity, but after experimenting with it, Light realizes that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the New World" by passing his judgment on those he deems to be evil or who get in his way.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L" the world's top-rated detective. L has great powers of deduction and insight and quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word "killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them.

Written rules
  • The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
  • This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
  • If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen.
  • If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack.
  • After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
Soon, Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins pulling all kinds of wit and trickery.

It took almost the whole weekend to final finish the whole series and in my opinion, I think it's much better than the new prison break and i'd recommend it for any one reading this post.

SmallVille 802: Plastique

Finally the long awaited second episode of small ville was aired today and it was not a disappointment.

The CW's Official Description: It's Clark's (Tom Welling) first day at the Daily Planet with Louis (Erica Durance), and the pair are immediately thrown together on a story when a bus explodes outside the office. Clark rescues Bette (guest star Jessica Parker Kennedy), a young girl who bonds with Chloe (Allison Mack) over their shared meteor abilities, but Bette is hiding a big secret. Paramedic Davis Bloom (Sam Witwer) arrives in Metropolis and is drawn to Chloe.

The big secret was; Bette had powers to explode and set stuff on fire and did actually blow up a whole bus. To get the full story watch the episode and you can download it from SV:  Plastique

You've been Phished....

Have you ever received a bulletin or comment from your friend that you know they did not really send to you? It's probably because they got "phished" and a spammer is using their account to spam you! You may have been phished yourself and seen messages, comments or bulletins sent from your social network account (Face-book, MySpace, Hi5 e.t.c).

What is it?
Phishing is the luring of an internet user to reveal personal details (like email, passwords and credit card information) on a fake web page or email form pretending to come from a legitimate company or source. (Word Web)

Why?
It is not a "security" flaw, and you're not getting "hacked." You've probably been warned before about phishing websites, but most people don't think or worry about phishing when using their social net work account (I’ll use face-book onwards). You may wonder why anyone would even want to get your Face-book password. On Face-book, phishers obviously aren't after your money, but they are still trying to make money! They achieve this by logging into your account and using your account to spam your friends. They make money from the advertisements they spam. (Spam works better when it comes from a real account you know, because your friends are likely to pay attention to it!)

Prevention
It's entirely preventable by you, if you know what to look for. To make sure you don't get phished, you have to understand exactly how it works.

Here's the basic idea: It starts with the person trying to phish you making a web page that looks just like the log in page of the website (Face-book) you're trying to use. Then the phisher comes up with a creative way to get you to click on the link to that page (maybe by sending you a message or comment saying you should check something out). When you see the link and click it, you are presented with the fake log in page created by the phisher. If you enter your info, you've been "phished" - you've fallen for the trick, and they've captured your email and password! The phisher will then start logging in as you until you change your password and lock them out.

Now you may think you know exactly what the Face-book log in page looks like and that someone could not trick you into typing your info into a fake page, but it is very easy to fall for this! It's also very easy for anyone to make an exact copy of the Face-book log in page, or the log in page of any website you use. There is only one easy way to know that you are at the real log in page. That's by looking at your browser's address bar--the place you view or type in the URL of the website you want to visit. There will you know what website you are actually on at the moment. For Face-book, the only page you should log in to is “www.facebook.com" - with no extra characters before or after it. note for the new face-book, it's "www.new.facebook.com" Face-book is yet to do something about it!

If you are ever clicking around Face-book and you are asked to log in, don't do it! STOP and check the address in the URL to be sure it’s not some fake site designed to steal your log in credentials.

Use the latest version of Internet explorer which automatic checks all websites and has phishing protection. It will check to see if the site you are visiting is a phishing website and warn you.

Finally changing your password occasional will block out unauthorized users frequently until they give up eventually.

Funny Email

This was hilarious, I received it in my email and thought I'd share it. So True!!

---------------------------------------
Dear Technical Support,

18 months ago, I upgraded to Girlfriend 1.0 from DrinkingMates 4.2, which I had used for years without any trouble. However, there are apparently conflicts between these two products and the only solution was to try and run Girlfriend 1.0 with the sound turned off. To make matters worse, Girlfriend 1.0 is incompatible with several other applications, such as LadsNightOut 3.1, Football 4.5, and Playboy 6.9. Successive versions of Girlfriend proved no better.

I tried a shareware program, Slapper 2.1, but it had many bugs and left a virus in my system, forcing me to shut down completely for several weeks.

Eventually, I tried to run Girlfriend 1.2 and Girlfriend 1.0 at the same time, only to discover that when these two systems detected each other they caused severe damage to my hardware. I eventually upgraded to Fiancée 1.0, only to discover that this product soon had to be upgraded further to Wife 1.0. While Wife 1.0 tends to use up all my available resources, it does come bundled with CookingPlus and Cleanhouse2008.

Shortly after this upgrade, however, I found that Wife 1.0 could be very unstable and costly to run. Any mistakes I made were automatically stored in Wife 1.0's memory and could not be deleted. They then resurfaced months later when I had forgotten about them.

Wife 1.0 also has an automatic Diary, Explorer and E-mail filter, and can, without warning, launch TurboStrop and Multi-Whinge. These latter products have no Help files, and I have to try to guess what the problem is.

Additional problems are that Wife 1.0 needs updating regularly, requiring ShoeShop Browser for new attachments and Hairstyle Express which needs to be reinstalled every other week.

Also, when Wife 1.0 attaches itself to my Saab 93 Convertible hard drive, it often crashes.

Wife 1.0 also comes with an irritating pop-up called MotherInLaw, which can't be turned off.

Recently I've been tempted to install Mistress 2007, but there could be problems. A friend of mine has alerted me to the fact that if Wife 1.0 detects Mistress 2007, it tends to delete all of your Money before uninstalling itself.
Help requested please!

---------------------------------
And the flip side...

Dear Tech Support:

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in the overall performance, particularly in the Flower and Jewelery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then installed undesirable programs such as: Football 5.0, Rugby 4.3 and Cricket 3.0.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs; it simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, to no avail.

What can I do?
Signed,

Desperate
---------------------------------------------------------

Dear Desperate:

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System.

Try entering the command: C:/ITHOUGHTYOULOVEDME to download Tears 6.2, which should automatically install Guilt 3.0. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. But remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1.

WARNING: Beer 6.1 is a very nasty program that will create Snoring Loudly.

CAUTION: Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law. This is not a supported application and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. I personally recommend Hot Food 3.0 and Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck,

Tech Support

Something unexpected In the mail....

This afternoon, The Mailman final brought it. I was not expecting the package for at least another two days because the company promise delivery with a week but USPS has indeed made a great Impression. I remember loathing using the Uganda postal service ever since it lost my sister's success card and money my parents had sent to me while still in boarding school. Am not sure if the situation has changed but I strongly believe all of us have some story with the post office -Right?

Any how, I tore off the packaging excitedly like a child would launch at a sweet and oh my was I greatly disappointed.May be it's because of those new T.V adds with the nano-chromatic i pods or I'd just over estimated my expectations but the sansa MP3 player that I had got off amazon was no longer as appealing as it looked. Here Is a picture of the thing.
I hope you can see what made me make the choice. Being that sleek looking, capacity of 2Gb and costing about 31$(+taxes) made it an ideal partner.
The bad side however was, The protruding backside(not in pic) designed to accommodate a single AAA battery (They were kind enough to include a battery) thus making it more large than slim. The thing uses an external USB connector meaning you have to always move with it somehow or miss getting that song you always wanted at some rare source.
Talk about looks can be deceiving!!
The most thing I hate about it is the constant replacement of battery which cost more $ and damage to the environment (don't ask how)

At the moment, there is nothing else to do but be happy with what I have in hand. The consolation is; It has Integrated FM radio, built-in microphone and voice recorder and can hold about 32 hours of MP3 and 64 hours of WMA audio. It does save you about 25$ compared to an i-pod mp3 player of the same capacity. Oh and I almost forgot to mention it was a gift card at amazon that paid for it.

The set up is not complicated at all and am planning to load it first with my favorite songs, which of course I'll be able to share with you in the upcoming days.

Till Then, Have a great Week!!!

The second arrival.

Becoming an enthusiastic blogger is proving to be more difficult than I had imagined. I had thought that it was going to be an easy thing this time round but am already getting blogger's block(if that word exists) and It's only my second post. Either it's because my life at the moment is not that exciting or am somehow failing to appreciate and accept the small bits that are actually important. What do you think is important to you?

However, after a quick search with my friend Google for help, I found about 8 million hits which would all rather be helpful for the new blogger or the wanna be blogger. There is a lot of information out there for blogger's but I would highly recommend wiki's How to start a blog for newbies simplified to only 8 simple steps. It is from here that I made the decision to make this a free-lance blog project centered around me and for crying out loud, it's even called Emi's Works -how ironic. I now understand Albert Einstein when he once said "making things simple yet not simpler".

So here goes a wrap up of events since my last post.

Thursday was not as expected. There is nothing much to write about this day typically because I spent most of it in bed. It must have been the exhaustion(slept late reading) or one of those days you get an attack by some laziness and do not want to do anything, what ever the reason I had nothing to look forward to for the day and therefore did not make any loss that day. The only exciting thing for the day was the season premier of Smallville and Supernatural on CW11 -Two of my personal top shows on T.V and oh my!! They did start with a bang.

Spoiler: To all Lex's fan's, Don't you just love him also? it's sad to note that Lex(Micheal Rosenbaum); The best "bad guy" so far and Clark's arch enemy will not future much in season 8 as reported by the show's producers. Hopefully, this does not kill my love for the show because he brought such a unique mixture of charm, power, meanness and menace that made Smallville very enjoyable to watch and thus he was my favorite character.
Here is the best season 8 trailer I found

There is promise for more villains like Doomsday, Maxima and Tess Mercer(Lex's replacement). but am yet to see if they can measure up to Rosenbaum performance. looking forward to the second episode next Thursday.

I can not write much about Supernatural. I missed several of the last episodes of season 3 but the new season has more intensity and intrigue. Am catching up on season 3 when I can afford the DVD and will update accordingly. One thing is obvious though, Sam and Dean certainly have new powers and am not missing any episode this time round. How did season 3 actually wrap up? any one know?

As for Friday the beginning of weekend, I completely have nothing to write about. I know it should be with most activity and fun filled but let's face it, considering my unemployment status and brokenness, it's just another day to let pass. Sure NY has lots of places to "happen" at virtually no cost but am yet to discover and tame the volatile "apple's culture" before venturing out.

Back home in Uganda, I recall a Friday would be much sought after and longed for since that always meant unwinding and relaxing with the boys after a hard day's work. Game after game of pool was in-order with 1759's or some cocktail usually based around Ug. I'll be mentioning the venues in up coming posts in comparison with what I find here, but for the moment, am glad I've finally put something down for my second post.

And "Cut" That's a wrap till another time, Enjoy the weekend.

Re-Genesis

Hello and thanks for reading my blog. Today marks my re-entry into the blogger-world and am more excited about it than before because of a renewed passion and desire to put more effort and seriousness into sharing my world. Apparently my new inspiration is from this Blog and a couple of others I stumbled upon while casually surfing the net on one of my "free breaks". Reading some of the posts reminded me of those days that I once tried starting sharing my daily opinions via blogging. That must have been like a century ago -OK in reality, it was around 2001 but this was terminated before it could fully kickoff and I only blame the unreliable and difficult access of the Internet during that time all because of President Museveni. He............am not going there -Am trying to to keep my new blog non-political.

Come 2004-05 the flame rekindled largely because of the blog fever that had suddenly attacked Uganda and become so infectious. Do you also remember this period? Some of you might have picked up around this time frame. I believe I was the worst hit because I had up to 3 blogs all anonymous with weekly updates. By around July 2006 the 'gas' was no longer there; partly it could have been due to my small reading audience or my lack of new ideas to share but I'll refrain from further mentioning others. Why? because a lot of forces beyond my control where in play then.

It's a shame I do not remember most of my discussions then but some that spring into mind are; the thoughts on relationships (don't We all love that topic) , idle discussions about life and how to make some quick shs. It's sad that I can not be able to trace all the old blogs, they could have been deleted or faced the wrath of whatever happens to forgotten web-blogs. So I can not truly tell my 'blogging scale'

Enough about the past. Like someone once said, "we must not dwell too much on the past but look forward towards the future." Am looking forward to updating my blog regularly and sharing with my readers the various .................. that come my way. Am not exactly sure of what I'll be writing about but my head is filled with numerous different ideas, Thus much needed and appreciated help from 'Probloggers' and reader's comments is required for this first post and the subsequent ones on which paths not to take.

Please do leave a comment/view

Cheers!!!
